I am a native South Korean that had spent a bit too much time in the United States speaking English. As such, my Korean had gotten a bit rusty. I enjoy reading novels, and I just thought I would translate Korean novels into English so that I can relearn/remember Korean :).  Please understand, however, it is not my intent to gloss over all the translations until they are perfect…grammar, punctuation, and everything.  My short experience translating has taught me that there are some translations that can’t be perfectly transcribed over into another language because of the difference in the cultural utility of language.  In other words, meaning of a word or a phrase gets lost after it being translated.  What does that mean?  It is subject to the translator’s interpretation and intent that decides the final product.

What does this mean for this website?  First of all, I am not a professional, as I have already stated, and second, this is something that I am doing to better myself, and at the same time benefit the readers.  Not to sound irresponsible, but I am not shooting for perfection, nor am I shooting for garbage.  All I can say is that, as an amateur doing this with a spare time, my balance of what is acceptable and what is not is just that, an amateur’s decision making influenced by what is acceptable direction he is going with the particular word or phrase with the intent to somehow illuminate/translate above mentioned cultural utility of language to help English speaking readers better understand the cultural barrier that is apparent during the crossover….but again…this is a foolish path taken by an amateur :).

What picture the destination will show is undetermined at the moment.  I don’t even know whether I can even start with the right footing….
